Up To $100k Available for Ontario Businesses in the Agricultural Sector

Three Program Streams Offered Through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership Are Now Open & Accepting Applications

The Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) is comprised of various programs to support and improve the agricultural sector across Canada. The CAP supports agricultural producers, processors, and other businesses by investing in projects that contribute to:

  • Economic Development
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Protection and Assurance

Here are the top three CAP program streams that are currently open to agricultural businesses in Ontario:

 

Food Safety & Traceability System Improvements

Funding through CAP Ontario - Food Safety and Traceability System Improvements is for organizations who are developing, implementing or improving food safety and traceability systems through:

  • Writing systems to a recognized standard
  • Equipment purchases
  • Facility upgrades
  • Validation studies
  • Initial food safety certification to recognized and/or international standards

Eligible Applicants

  • Farmers and producers (including dairy) in Ontario are eligible for this funding
  • Livestock and poultry operations are not eligible to apply

Applicants must comply with at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be involved with food products for human consumption
  • Have 100 or fewer employees
  • Demonstrate a clear link between the development and/or improvement of a written food safety traceability system and all proposed project activities

Funding Details

  • 50% of eligible costs are available for funding, with a maximum of $75,000

Deadline

The deadline for applications for this program is September 2, 2021.

 

Develop New Products or Processes

Funding provided by CAP Ontario – Develop New Products or Processes aims to provide support for businesses who are developing products or processes as a means to:

  • Increase sales
  • Support retention of an existing market
  • Grow an existing market
  • Access a new market.

Eligible Applicants 

This program is specifically for food processors that are:

  • Manufacturing in a facility with less than 200 employees
  • located in Ontario
  • participating in the transformation of their product and/or products within the province.

Funding Details

  • 50% of eligible costs are available for funding, with a maximum of $50,000

Deadline

The deadline for applications for this program is September 2, 2021.

 

Technology & Equipment to Improve Productivity

The Technology and Equipment to Improve Labour Productivity (CAPON-TEILP) program aims to support organizations with projects implementing advanced equipment and manufacturing technologies to increase labour productivity, improve energy efficiency, or reduce waste. Any processor with projects within the agri-foods sector may apply, but preference will be given to businesses located in Northern Ontario or have Indigenous partners.

Eligible Activities 

  • Retrofit, upgrade or acquire new equipment or technology to increase automation
  • Modification of existing equipment or for optimization or to enable the installation of automation and labour-saving equipment or technology
  • Third-party advisory costs for first-time training of key personnel on project-related new equipment, technology, software and processes
  • Third-party advisory costs for development and translation of existing labour productivity-focused policies, feedback systems, preventative maintenance procedures, and standard operational procedures to improve personnel

Funding Details

  • 35% of eligible costs are available for funding, with a maximum of $100,000

Deadline

Applications for this program must be submitted by October 18, 2021.
