The Government of Canada has officially launched the third intake of the Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program (GIFMP). Administered by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), this round focuses exclusively on the Industrial Facility Track, providing major funding to support decarbonization and energy efficiency across Canada's industrial sector.
If your facility is looking to cut energy costs, improve operational efficiency, or reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, this program represents a critical opportunity to offset the cost of your investments.
The Industrial Facility Track is designed to:
Support projects that improve facility-level energy performance
Fund upgrades that result in measurable reductions in energy use and GHGs
Accelerate the deployment of energy management systems and process innovations
Whether you’re upgrading equipment, optimizing processes, or implementing an ISO 50001 Energy Management System, this program can help you cover the cost.
Maximum Contribution: Up to $10 million per project
Cost-Share:
Up to 50% of eligible expenses
Up to 75% for Indigenous applicants
Deadline to Apply: November 7, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PDT
To qualify for funding, applicants must:
Operate an industrial facility located in Canada
Either:
Consume at least 0.5 petajoules (PJ) of energy annually
Or implement an ISO 50001-compliant Energy Management System
This includes facilities in sectors such as:
Mining and metals
Pulp and paper
Cement, chemicals, and fertilizers
Food and beverage processing
Manufacturing and industrial production
Funding is available for a wide range of energy performance projects, including:
Implementation of energy efficiency retrofits
Adoption of ISO 50001 energy management systems
Energy audits and performance assessments
Metering, monitoring, and data management systems
Capacity building and technical training
Equipment upgrades that reduce GHG emissions
To be considered, projects must result in quantifiable improvements in energy use and/or GHG emissions reductions at the facility level.
The GIFMP is a highly competitive and well-funded program designed to drive real impact in Canada’s industrial economy. As pressure mounts to reduce emissions and modernize operations, this funding provides a strategic advantage to early movers.
With funding available on a project-by-project basis, early applicants are best positioned to benefit before funds are exhausted.
Navigating a technical program like the GIFMP requires more than a compelling idea, it requires a structured, defensible proposal.
At GrantMatch, we work alongside Canadian industrial clients to:
Evaluate project alignment with eligibility requirements
Prepare complete application packages
Develop technical justifications and project scopes
Liaise with NRCan to ensure compliance
Maximize funding potential while reducing administrative burden
Our team has a successful track record helping industrial and manufacturing clients access large-scale funding through federal initiatives.
