Up to $1 Million Available for Recreational Facility Upgrades and Repairs

The Recreation Infrastructure Program, under the auspices of the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT), offers grants to support the development and enhancement of recreational infrastructure. The program aligns with NDIT's focus on economic development while also accommodating community goals related to clean energy and adaptation. By investing in recreational infrastructure, communities can enhance resident attraction and retention, while also boosting opportunities for sport tourism. Whether it's constructing new facilities or upgrading existing ones, the program aims to support projects that contribute to the overall well-being and vitality of Northern British Columbia.

Funding INformation

  1. Upgrades or Repairs to Existing Facilities:

    • Funding Range: Up to $100,000
    • Coverage: Maximum of 70% of the project cost
  2. New Construction or Substantial Upgrades:

    • Funding Range: Up to $300,000
    • Coverage: Maximum of 50% of the project cost

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Applicants: The program is open to various entities within Northern Development's service region, including:

  • Local Governments
  • Indigenous Communities (Registered First Nations Bands)
  • Non-governmental Organizations / Not-for-Profits
  • Registered Not-for-Profits

Eligible Activities: The Recreation Infrastructure Program supports a wide range of projects aimed at fostering community engagement and promoting sport tourism. Eligible activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Arenas, gymnasiums, fitness facilities
  • Indoor/outdoor pools
  • Sports fields
  • Curling rinks
  • Stadiums
  • Golf courses
  • Exhibition/rodeo grounds
  • Campgrounds
  • Marinas, boat launches
  • Backcountry trail networks, ski facilities, and backcountry cabins/shelters
