The Sustainable Jobs Training Fund is committed to backing projects that provide accessible training to workers, allowing them to enhance their skills or acquire new ones tailored for a low-carbon economy.
Funding INformation
The Sustainable Jobs Training Fund
- Total Allocation: Up to $99.1 million from 2024 to 2028.
- Project Funding Range: Each project can receive funding ranging from $8 million to $15 million.
To ensure impactful investment within key sectors, the fund will prioritize projects that:
- Ensure balanced representation across priority areas
- Align with federal economic and climate priorities
- Target critical sectors and occupations required for the low-carbon economy
- Maximize geographic coverage nationwide
- Increase participation of Indigenous Peoples and equity-deserving groups
- Support bilingual training initiatives
- Scale up successful existing initiatives
Eligibility Criteria
Organizations eligible to apply for funding include:
- Not-for-profit organizations
- For-profit organizations
- Indigenous organizations, encompassing band councils, tribal councils, self-government entities
- Provincial or territorial governments, including institutions, agencies, and Crown corporations
Eligible Projects
The Sustainable Jobs Training Fund aims to support projects that offer free or low-cost training to workers, enabling them to upgrade or acquire new skills tailored for the low-carbon economy. These projects will focus on one of the following priorities:
- Low-carbon energy and carbon management: Training in sectors such as wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and carbon management, fostering skills development for a net-zero future.
- Green buildings and retrofits: Equipping a workforce to build and retrofit homes and buildings for reduced energy consumption and low-carbon performance, including installation of HVAC equipment, energy-efficient components, and renewable energy systems.
- Electric vehicle maintenance and charging infrastructure: Training to support Canada's transition to electric vehicles, emphasizing repair and maintenance of EVs, along with the development of charging infrastructure.
Projects seeking funding must meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrated partnerships or capacity to establish partnerships with employers, unions, training institutions, and other stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of skills development, training, and labor market issues within the specified priority areas.
- Recent experience, within the last 3 years, in delivering initiatives supporting skills and workforce development, including bilingual training programs.
- Target a minimum of 1,500 participants, benefiting a variety of employers, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- Activities must span across at least 2 provinces/territories.
- Convene key stakeholders and forge partnerships to ensure demand-driven training that addresses skills needs.

All proposals must be submitted by March 31, 2028.
