The Government of Canada is making a major investment in the future of clean energy, transportation, and advanced manufacturing through the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund (CMIF). With up to $200 million available under the Contribution Funding Stream, this initiative supports infrastructure projects that directly enable the responsible development and processing of Canada’s critical minerals.
From roads and energy connections to broadband and water systems, this fund is aimed at unlocking the full value of Canada's critical mineral supply chains positioning the country as a global leader in clean technology and electrification.
To qualify, projects must be shovel-ready with construction beginning by Fall 2025 and must directly support the development, processing, or recycling of critical minerals used in technologies like EV batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, and defense systems.
Examples of eligible projects include:
Access roads to mining sites
Grid connections or clean energy supply
Water, wastewater, or broadband infrastructure
Transportation upgrades that serve critical minerals facilities
Total Funding Available: Up to $200 million
Funding Type: Non-repayable contribution agreements
Federal Cost Share: Up to 50% of total eligible project costs
Higher contribution levels may be available for Indigenous applicants or projects located in remote or Northern regions.
Application Deadline: June 26, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PT
Delivery Agency: Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)
This funding stream is one of two under the broader $1.5 billion Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund, designed to improve Canada’s infrastructure capacity and supply chain security in a rapidly evolving global economy.
The CMIF Contribution Stream gives priority to projects that:
✅ Enable or accelerate critical minerals development
✅ Advance Indigenous ownership, employment, or partnership
✅ Improve environmental outcomes or reduce emissions
✅ Enhance regional economic development and community benefits
✅ Directly support Canada’s strategic industries: EVs, batteries, clean energy, semiconductors, defense
Navigating competitive federal funding streams can be challenging. That’s where we come in.
At GrantMatch, we specialize in identifying project alignment, preparing compelling applications, and maximizing funding outcomes for organizations across Canada. Our team will work closely with you to evaluate eligibility, develop a funding strategy, and meet tight federal submission deadlines with confidence.
This is a rare opportunity to secure substantial federal support for infrastructure projects tied to critical mineral development. With global demand for clean energy inputs growing fast, now is the time to take action.
