The Travel Alberta Investment Program aims to foster innovation, sustainability, and economic growth within Alberta's tourism industry. Each program stream listed below has specific eligibility criteria, funding ranges, priorities, and eligible expenses tailored to different stages of business development and tourism offerings.
Growth Fund
Funding Purpose: Purchase, build, or renovate permanent tourism infrastructure. Investment Range: Up to $500,000 with a 1:1 fund matching required.
Example: A project budgeted at $1,000,000 could receive up to $500,000 from Travel Alberta if the operator provides $500,000 in funding.
Priorities:
- Creates a new purchasable tourism experience within Alberta.
- Contributes to measurable job creation and economic growth.
- Diversifies the seasonality of product offerings for the operation/region.
- Supports the Indigenous tourism sector.
- Supports sustainability practices within the tourism operation.
Eligible Expenses:
- Creating or enhancing purchasable tourism experiences
- Promoting sustainability
- Professional support
Innovation Fund
Funding Purpose: Develop and diversify assets, programs, and experiences of existing operators.
Investment Range: Up to $200,000 with a 20% fund matching required.
Example: A project budgeted at $240,000 could receive up to $200,000 from Travel Alberta if the operator provides $40,000 in funding.
Priorities:
- Creates a new purchasable tourism experience within Alberta.
- Contributes to job creation and economic growth.
- Diversifies the seasonality of product offerings for the operation/region.
- Supports the Indigenous tourism sector.
- Supports sustainability practices within the tourism operation.
Eligible Expenses:
- Purchase costs for equipment
- Specialized equipment for a diverse market
