Ontario’s Rural Communities Can Now Apply for Up to $250,000 in Funding
The Government of Ontario has launched the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) Program, a major funding initiative delivering $20 million over the next two years to support economic growth, investment attraction, and job creation in rural communities.
This program aligns with Ontario’s rural economic development strategy, Enabling Opportunity, and is designed to help communities and small businesses address key barriers to growth and workforce sustainability. The first intake is now open, with applications due by September 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Funding Overview
The ROD Program offers cost-share funding across multiple streams, with maximum contributions ranging from $10,000 to $250,000 depending on applicant type and project scope.
Eligible Applicants
Applicants must be located in a designated rural area of Ontario and fall under one of the following categories:

Not-for-profit organizations

Indigenous communities or organizations

Local services boards

Small businesses (1–20 employees; brick-and-mortar only)
Community Development Streams
The following streams are available to rural municipalities, not-for-profits, Indigenous organizations, and local service boards:

Up to 50% cost-share, maximum $150,000

Up to 50% cost-share, maximum $50,000

Capacity Building Events
Up to 35% cost-share, maximum $10,000
