Ontario's Growing Communities

Ontario has seen significant growth in its population and housing demands, which necessitates a focus on infrastructure development. As part of this endeavor, the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund plays a pivotal role in addressing the water and wastewater requirements of growing communities. Most of Ontario's existing infrastructure was built in the 1950s and 1960s, making it essential to invest in upgrades and repairs to meet the needs of modern communities.

Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund

The Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund is a dedicated financial resource designed to support housing-enabling water and wastewater projects across the province. The fund aims to bridge the infrastructure gap and facilitate housing growth, contributing to the province's goal of 1.5 million homes by 2031.

Building Faster Fund

In conjunction with the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, the Building Faster Fund is another integral piece of Ontario's housing strategy. It covers housing-enabling infrastructure and related costs that support community growth, making it easier for municipalities to keep pace with their housing development plans.

Innovative Funding Approaches

The Ontario government is exploring various funding mechanisms to support municipal water infrastructure and foster housing growth. This includes providing improved flexibility for municipalities to access loans under the Infrastructure Ontario Loan Program. By offering these options, the government aims to empower municipalities and facilitate essential infrastructure development.
