$100,000 in Funding Available for Innovative Agriculture Investments In Ontario

The Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership Ontario - Agri-Tech Innovation Initiative (SCAPON-ATII) aims to foster innovation in the agricultural and food sector within Ontario. It offers funding opportunities to eligible farm and food processing businesses to invest in innovative technology, equipment, or processes. The funding is intended to support activities that enhance production capacity or efficiency.

Funding Details

Funding varies based on the stream:
    • Stream 1 - Agri-Tech Innovation:

      • Maximum Funding Amount: Up to $49,999
      • Percentage of Costs Eligible: Up to 50% of total eligible costs
      • Purpose: To support projects with total eligible costs per project less than $100,000.
      • Eligible Projects: Investments in commercially available equipment and technology to enhance growth and productivity.
    • Stream 2 - Agri-Tech Innovation:

      • Maximum Funding Amount: Up to $100,000
      • Percentage of Costs Eligible: Up to 35% of total eligible costs
      • Purpose: To support projects with total eligible costs per project $100,000 and greater.
      • Eligible Projects: Investments in commercially available equipment and technology to enhance growth and productivity.
    • Stream 3 - Agri-Tech Energy Cost Savings:

      • Maximum Funding Amount: Up to $100,000
      • Percentage of Costs Eligible: Up to 35% of total eligible costs
      • Purpose: To support projects focused on energy (greenhouse gas) cost-saving equipment and technology.
      • Eligible Projects: Investments in equipment and technology aimed at improving energy efficiency, such as energy-efficient equipment, water use technology, and facility improvements related to energy efficiency.

Eligibility
 

The following activities are eligible for funding: 

  • Eligible Activities (Streams 1 and 2):
    • Implementing new equipment, modification of equipment, technology, and machinery for production or manufacturing that is innovative.
    • Implementing new equipment, technology, and machinery or modification for advanced manufacturing (e.g., through automation, robotics, or digitization).
    • Facility or cybersecurity changes, upgrades, or modifications.
    • Purchasing software or upgrades.
    • Hiring third-party expertise/services including engineering services, cybersecurity assessments, software development, training, installation, and management.
  • Eligible Activities (Stream 3):
    • Purchasing or installing new or refurbished equipment, parts, components, and/or technology that improves energy efficiency.
    • Purchasing, installing, or modifying water use equipment and technology that improves energy efficiency (e.g., Clean in Place (CIP) systems that use cold water instead of hot water, equipment to recover and reuse waste heat from processing water).
    • Facility improvements related to building energy efficiency improvements (e.g., lighting, ventilation, heating, refrigeration).
    • Third-party expertise/services required for the project including engineering services, staff training, and project management.
